Austin, TX (PRWEB) February 28, 2013

To help companies comply with the new Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) decision, 360training.com has released a new online environmental health and safety (EHS) course GHS and OSHA Hazardous Communication. By December 1, 2013, all employers with hazardous chemicals in the workplace must train employees regarding the new Globally Harmonized System (GHS).

In 2012, OSHA adopted GHS as part of the Hazardous Communication Standard (HCS). This new addition to the Hazardous Communication program will affect over 5 million businesses and 40 million workers in the US construction and general industry segments. According to the OSHA website, the major changes to the HCS are

Hazard classification: Specific criteria for health and physical hazard classification, as well as mixture classification.

Labels: Chemical manufacturers and importers must provide a label for each hazard class and category that includes a harmonized signal word, pictogram, and hazard statement. Precautionary statements must also be provided.

Safety Data Sheets (SDS): Will now have a specified 16-section format.

Information and training: Workers must be receive employer training by December 1, 2013 on the new labels elements and safety data sheets format.

As an OHST [Occupational Health and Safety Technologist], I am incredibly passionate about keeping our workers safe so they can go home to their families, said Marie Athey, OHST, Director of EHS Product Management for 360training.com. I agree with OSHA that exposure to hazardous chemicals is a threat to our workforce and am thrilled that 360training.com made the GHS course to inform and protect American workers.

360training.coms online GHS course covers changes to the Hazardous Communication Standard and the new Globally Harmonized System, as well as how to use Safety Data Sheets and chemical labels to avoid hazards or respond to chemical exposures. Once employees complete the online course, employers must train employees where Safety Data Sheets or SDS (formerly Material Safety Data Sheets) are located, and specific chemical hazards they could be exposed to in the workplace.

The course is available for purchase immediately. To learn more about the GHS and OSHA Hazardous Communication online course, go to 360training.com or click here.
